Nestor


Nestor is a PC/AT compatible that I'm using as an AFPD and CIFS (SMB) file server, Web server, mail server, network router, Internet gateway, and general utility platform. I bought its mainboard, CPU and RAM from a cousin when he upgraded his system, and then purchased additional hard disk drives, case and power supply, network interface card, and floppy disk drive to actually make it go.

You can normally reach Nestor on the Internet by the DNS name ripples.dyndns.org. This is probably an opportune moment to put in a plug for Dynamic DNS Network Services.

Operating System

Nestor exclusively runs the NetBSD/i386 1.5 operating system. Well, OK, I might boot off an MS-DOS or Linux floppy if I'm having problems installing new hardware…
